Fort Lauderdale, FL-based Pizza Fusion, organic pizza quick service restaurant operator, is the latest to take a lead in the sector when it comes to "being green."
The company's first restaurant opened in 2006 in Deerfield Beach, FL. Its second location was opened by a franchisee in Fort Lauderdale that purchased an area agreement to open locations throughout the Miami area; Aventura and South Beach are expected to be on the menu soon. Pizza Fusion just announced that it has partnered up with CB Richard Ellis' Restaurant Specialty Practice Group to provide site selection services for the company. In its first year of franchising, Pizza Fusion expects 12 to 15 new restaurants to open, but it has already sold 50 franchises in NJ, PA, CO, GA, NV and FL.
Pizza Fusion has pledged to only open LEED-Certified restaurants going forward, the first of which will open in Palm Beach, FL by the end of this year. This location will be the first LEED-Certified restaurant to open in Florida. Restaurants in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh will be next in the Pizza Fusion LEED lineup. Aside from its organic menu, Pizza Fusion restaurants' green elements include solar panels, efficient water and air heating units, countertops made from 100% recycled detergent bottles, bamboo flooring, 30% recaptured industrial concrete, ceiling panels made from 74% recycled aluminum cans and 24% post industrial metals, USG Gypsum Board made from pre-used drywall, bamboo veneer face covering for fixtures, ceiling baffles made from recycled composite board, low voltage and low heat lighting, seat cushions made with soybean oil, and more.
