Miller Park, which opened in 2001, has now been declared LEED Certified in Existing Building Operations and Maintenance (EB:OM) by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Johnson Controls, Inc. managed the extensive LEED certification process, ensuring that the building now meets the necessary human and environmental safety and sustainability standards. The new operations and efficiency measures that were implemented include new water-saving fixtures, the addition of many recycling stations throughout the grounds, and the shifting of smoking areas away from the stadium's entrances and windows.
AT&T Park in San Francisco and Target Field in Minneapolis are the other two LEED Certified professional stadiums, although Miller Park is the first in the country with a retractable roof.
