Massive Northeast Houston Mixed-Use to Get First Hotel

Courtyard by Marriott Bringing 144-Room Hotel to 4,000-Acre Generation Park

McCord Development, the sole owner and developer of Generation Park, is working with Courtyard by Marriott to bring the first hotel to its mixed-use development.

Marriott is planning a 144-room hotel at the commercial park’s 52-acre lifestyle and entertainment center, Redemption Square - part of McCord's 4,000-acre Generation Park in northeast Houston. The hotel, which officially broke ground last week, is slated for completion in 2019.

With 4,000 contiguous acres amid a fast growing area of the Houston metro, Generation Park is busy courting business. Prior to Amazon releasing its short list of HQ2 candidates, McCord Development appealed directly to Jeff Bezos by hiring a plane to fly near Amazon’s Seattle HQ trailing a banner that said, "Jeff, Houston is calling." While McCord may have struck out with Amazon, IKEA is under contract to acquire 160 acres in Generation Park, where it plans to build at least 1.2 million square feet.

The Courtyard by Marriott will be developed on a one-acre site purchased by Hotel Development Services, which will partner with American Hospitality Management to oversee the day-to-day construction and management of the property. The Courtyard by Marriott represents the first hotel project in Texas for Oxford, OH-based Hotel Development Services, and the largest in its portfolio.

"We continue to bring amenities to our mixed-use district, Redemption Square, that will benefit both the business at Generation Park and the Lake Houston communities that surround it," McCord Development President Ryan McCord said.

The latest development in the park, the five-story Courtyard by Marriott will feature more than 2,000 square feet of meeting space, a business center, 24-hour market, fitness center, outdoor pool, casual workspaces and a bistro featuring grab-and-go food options and Starbucks Coffee.

Construction on Courtyard by Marriott comes roughly one month after McCord broke ground on the 255 Assay St. Luxury Apts., a 251-unit apartment projects that represents the first luxury multifamily development to be constructed within Redemption Square.
