Jon Love, the chief executive of KingSett Capital, has told social media followers that his executive managing director, Joe Mazzocco, will be leaving the firm.

"I am announcing today that Joe Mazzocco has informed me that he will be leaving KingSett. Joe has been with KingSett for nearly 13 years, the last seven as a partner," Love told his LinkedIn followers.

Mazzocco spent six years at CIBC World Markets before coming to KingSett which, with very little public fanfare, has grown into a real estate giant since Love founded it in 2002.

KingSett has raised $7 billion of equity for its growth, income, urban and mortgage strategies, and completed $28 billion of acquisitions, dispositions and mortgage lending. It currently owns interests in $13 billion of assets.

Love said that Mazzocco came to him with news that he was leaving after “considerable reflection" and is now looking for a "new chapter" in his life.

KingSett is also making two organizational changes to its leadership team. Rob Kumer assumes sole responsibility for the investment group as chief investment officer. Kumer worked at RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust from 2000 to 2004 before joining KingSett.

Reporting to Kumer will be Scott Coates as leader of the mortgage team. Love said that "in recognition of the important role of the mortgage team," Coates will join the executive committee, which he chairs.

"The role of the executive committee is to set the strategic direction of KingSett," said Love.
