Hampton University broke ground on a 98,000-square-foot office-medical center at Hampton Roads Center business park in Hampton, VA, last month. The Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute at 40 Enterprise Parkway will deliver in 2010.
The city donated the 5.5 acres for the facility.
Hampton Roads Center is a 650-acre planned business park with office, research and development, flex and high bay industrial space.
The institute will treat about 125 cancer patients daily and more than 2,000 patients per year. Delegate Mamye E. BaCote, (D-95th District) of the Virginia House of Delegates, is pushing the government to support the center at the $10 million level. Officials also have introduced state and federal legislation, each level seeking $10 million to support the center.
