Greensboro Greens Building Approval Process

New Electronic Review Process Saves Money, Time, Paper
January 25, 2012
Developers and contractors know that submitting a building plan for review and approval can really take up precious resources such as time, money and paper. The Greensboro, NC Development Services Center has implemented its groundbreaking Electronic Plan Review system - a document management system allowing building plans up to 100 pages to be submitted for review electronically.

Previously used for submitting site plans, the system is now accepting commercial building plans, with the ability to submit residential projects coming later. The program not only reduces printing costs and associated drains on environmental resources, but also speeds up the implementation process, leading to quicker turn around on construction projects.

"By introducing an Electronic Plan Review system that can accept building plans up to 100 pages in length, we can now simplify another costly process and expand our customer service," said Julius Register, plan review supervisor with the Greensboro Development Services Division. "The cutting-edge technology at the city’s Development Services Center will also be able to compete with large cities like Raleigh and Charlotte to attract more commercial developers to the area."

The new IAS-certified Development Services Division creates a one-stop shop for developers, reducing the time it takes city staff to vet construction projects, with technical review, permit and building inspections all in one office, saving time and resources driving all over the city locating these different services.
