Facebook to Add Nearly 1 Million SF to Oregon Data Center Campus

Social Networking Service to Develop Two Buildings in Prineville
December 12, 2017
Facebook, Inc. today announced the development of two buildings totaling 970,000 square feet in Prineville, OR, where the social networking company has already invested more than $1 billion in its cutting-edge, energy-efficient data center campus.

Since breaking ground on its first custom-built data center in the rural central Oregon town in January 2010, the company has so far completed three buildings totaling 1.25 million square feet, including a 163,000-square-foot building, in the Tom McCall Business Park.

The company this month will begin construction of its fourth data center building, scheduled to begin operations in 2020. The fifth building will break ground in 2018 and begin serving traffic in 2021.

The two new buildings will total 900,000 square feet, plus a connecting 70,000-square-foot administrative space. The project will add "hundreds of millions of dollars" to the existing investment at the 120-acre site.

"This translates into keeping construction crews busy for another four years, plus additional full-time jobs as the data halls come online," said Facebook spokesman KC Timmons in a post on the official Facebook page.

As of September, the Prineville data center employed more than 200 full-time people, with three-quarters of the workforce living in surrounding Crook County.
