Colliers International COO Kim Brennan to Join CBRE

In Return to Former Firm, She Becomes Senior Managing Director for New York
October 10, 2018

Kimberly Brennan is leaving Colliers International, where she was chief operating officer for its New York tri-state region operation, to join CBRE Group Inc. as senior managing director, a new position at the company, in New York.

In an internal memo Wednesday, Matt Van Buren, president of CBRE's Northeast division, said Brennan is coming back to the world's largest real estate firm, where she worked years ago in Manhattan.

"Kim will be a key member of our New York leadership team, joining Mike Casey, Sue Nagler-Cohen, Travis Yuengst, Elaine Kleinberg, Ruth Levy, and Jennifer Czubaja," Van Buren wrote, adding that she will report directly to him.

"Kim will be a great addition to our management team," he also wrote in the memo. "She is deeply knowledgeable of the New York real estate market, knows how to drive business and has great people skills. We are excited to have her back. We will let you know when she is on board so you can welcome her."

In an industry packed with men in high-ranking management posts, Brennan has stood out as a woman who successfully climbed the corporate ladder in the competitive New York region. The New York Tri-State office, which is CBRE’s largest market by revenue in the United States, falls under Van Buren's purview, according to the firm's website. His memo on Brennan was sent to the CBRE New York Tri-State team.

Also on Wednesday, Colliers sent out an e-mail to employees in its Tri-State Region saying that Brennan had resigned as COO, according to people who saw the e-mail. But it did not say where Brennan was headed.

Colliers spokesman John Yocca declined to comment. But several Colliers employees who didn't want to be named said Brennan's resignation came out of the blue and surprised them.

Brennan, who has been based in Manhattan for Colliers, didn't respond to requests for comment.

As chief operating officer at Colliers, Brennan was responsible for overall business operations, including profit and losses, business development, expanding market share and providing leadership and strategic direction to the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut offices.

Brennan joined Colliers in February 2015 as COO, according to her LinkedIn profile. Prior to that she spent 10 years at Cushman & Wakefield.

As market leader for Cushman & Wakefield's New Jersey region based in East Rutherford, she was responsible for overall business operations, including market share, business development, recruiting and development of brokers and staff, as well as providing leadership and strategic direction to the East Rutherford, Morristown and Edison offices in New Jersey.

Brennan joined Cushman & Wakefield from CBRE, where she served as a managing director of brokerage services for its midtown Manhattan office.

"Kim is well known to many of you from her previous roles in Midtown brokerage and Tri-State sales management in the early and mid-2000s," Van Buren said in his memo.

Brennan is a trustee of NAIOP NJ, the commercial real estate trade group. She has also served as director of programming for CREW NJ, an international organization for women in commercial real estate, and as director of membership for that group.

Brennan was also an adviser for the Women's Diversity 2.0 program at Colliers, according to LinkedIn.
