SSH Adds Mears to Suburban Philadelphia Team

Brian D. Mears, CCIM has joined SSH Real Estate as a partner. In his new role, Mears will lead the firm's suburban Philadelphia office.

The industry veteran brings 18 years of commercial real estate experience, including 14 years at The Flynn Company, most recently holding the title of partner, sales and leasing. His client list includes Crozer Keystone Health System, Penn Virginia Corporation, and TA Associates. Throughout his career, Mears has completed transactions totaling more than 8 million square feet valued at over $300 million.

"In SSH I saw a unique opportunity. The firm offers me a tremendous platform with expertise in brokerage, management and leasing, which will benefit my existing client base and help to grow our suburban presence," added Mears.


Parmenter Names Loftis Managing Principal of SW Region

Parmenter Realty Partners tapped Michael Loftis to succeed Steve Bronner as managing principal of the southwest region. Bronner was promoted to vice chairman in late 2013.

In his new role, Loftis will oversee acquisitions, dispositions, developments, leasing, management and asset management throughout the southwest U.S.

A 32-year industry veteran, Loftis began his career at Lincoln Property Co. and Woodbine Development. He later served as president and CEO of Presidio Investments and most recently as the senior portfolio manager for the Americas investment team at Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), where he oversaw sourcing, planning, negotiating and executing property acquisitions, portfolio management and dispositions.

Avison Young Adds Muldoon and Lange to Work Center City

Joe Muldoon and Chris Lange have joined Avison Young in Philadelphia where they will continue to work as a team specializing in landlord and tenant representation in the Center City office market.

Both formerly with Binswanger, Muldoon and Lange were named principals at AY. The new hires were announced by David Fahey, Avison Young principal and managing director of the company's Philadelphia office. Avison Young opened its office in Philadelphia in September 2013.


Brandywine Appoints Wirth as EVP, CFO

Thomas E. Wirth has been appointed executive vice president and chief financial officer at Brandywine Realty Trust (NYSE: BDN). Wirth is replacing Howard M. Sipzner, effective immediately.

Since December 2009 Wirth has served as executive vice president, portfolio management and investments. In this role, he directed portfolio management, acquisition and disposition activities while assisting in the formulation of capital allocation tactics for the company including structuring joint ventures and construction financing.

From 2004 to 2009 Wirth was at Feldman Mall Properties, as chief financial officer and beginning in 2007 as president. Before that he was the vice president of finance and later the chief financial officer of SL Green Realty Corporation. He previously held the title of vice president of financial reporting and analysis for United Waste System, Inc., and spent ten years with Ernst & Young LLP.


Vestar Promotes Axtell

Vestar, a privately-held retail real estate company, has promoted Jeff Axtell to executive vice president and regional manager in its Los Angeles, CA office.

In his new role, Axtell will be responsible for overseeing the firm's West Coast activities in California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.

Since joining Vestar in 1997 as a project director, Axtell has been responsible for the acquisition of approximately $350 million in retail centers and the development of more than 5 million square feet.


Friedel Joins NGKF

Mitchell Friedel, a top retail executive known for his ground-up planning and leasing of mixed-use developments including the Time Warner Center's retail portion on the Upper West Side, has joined Newmark Grubb Knight Frank (NGKF) as an executive vice president in its national retail platform.

In his new role, Friedel will immediately take over two high-profile developments, and has been tasked as exclusive leasing consultant for Disney Springs - a new development for The Walt Disney Company in Orlando that will feature 350,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.

Friedel's successful retail career started at The Related Companies, where he was responsible for the lease-up at Time Warner Center with such prominent retailers as Tourneau, Williams-Sonoma and Sephora. The fully-leased shopping destination quieted skeptics who said retailers would never pay $400 per square foot. While at Thor High Street Advisors and RKF & Associates, Friedel leased more than one million square feet at mixed-use projects along the East Coast.


JLL Makes Two Appointments in Walnut Creek

JLL expanded its presence in East Bay with the appointment of two senior vice presidents in its Walnut Creek office.

A former managing director with Cassidy Turley, Tony Beatty has spent 28 years in the commercial real estate industry with a concentration on the sale and leasing of urban industrial and office space. He has been involved in more than 50 million square feet of transactions totaling more than $1.5 billion.

Jim Peterson comes to JLL from Newmark Cornish & Carey, where he served as a senior vice president and principal. In his career, Peterson has represented corporate office users as well as local and institutional owners in more than eight million square feet of transactions in greater Contra Costa and northern Alameda Counties.


Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer Names Betz SVP

Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer expanded its office platform in Raleigh following the addition of Jordan Betz to senior vice president where he will head up the office landlord representation group.

Betz comes to Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer from Spectrum Properties, where he spent the last seven years as a director of leasing. During that time, Betz led the leasing and marketing efforts for a 2.6 million-square-foot institutional office/flex/lab portfolio in the Raleigh-Durham Research Triangle.

"Jordan is an integral part of our continued growth teaming with our Property Management and Capital Markets industry leaders to expand our market share throughout the Raleigh/Durham area," said John Kelly, a senior vice president with the firm.


Duke Realty Cincinnati Bring Back Rogus and Palmer

Kevin Rogus and Brian Palmer have returned to the Cincinnati office of Duke Realty Corp. (NYSE: DRE) in new capacities.

Rogus will become the new senior vice president of Duke Realty’s leasing and development team, effective May 2014. Palmer returns as leasing representative for industrial properties, effective April 2014. Both Rogus and Palmer have worked in the Cincinnati market for numerous years.

A 21-year industry veteran, Rogus relocated to Phoenix in 2006 to supervise the launching of the Phoenix Duke Realty branch, managing property development and leasing. While in Phoenix, Rogus developed a relationship with, which led to Duke Realty’s selection for several build-to-suit projects for the ecommerce company nationwide. Palmer, a veteran of Duke Realty, started his career in 2000 in construction operations. He later transferred to Washington, D.C. in 2009, where he was appointed director of preconstruction.


Bradford Commercial Promotes Two

Dallas-based Bradford Commercial Real Estate Services promoted Nick Talley and Joe Santaularia to vice president. The real estate professionals previously served as market directors for the Fort Worth and DFW Airport markets, respectively.

Talley joined Bradford in 2006 and has spent seven years working in client representation, consulting and brokerage for industrial, flex and office properties. Santaularia joined the firm in 2008 and has been involved in representing logistics clients in the DFW Airport submarkets.


Wood Partners Promotes Bartlett

Wood Partners promoted Goldie Bartlett to vice president for its South region.

Bartlett has been a regional property manager since 2011, and will be responsible for growing, leading and directing all property management for projects under development and acquisitions in Wood Partners' Florida and Georgia portfolios. She has managed lease-ups, acquisitions and dispositions in the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and Southeast regions. As a founding member of Wood Residential Services (WRS), she helped grow the East Coast portfolio by almost 4,000 units.

Bartlett previously worked with Greystar Management Services and Camden Property Trust.


Lee Joins Transwestern

Luke Lee has joined Transwestern as a vice president of capital markets. Based in the firm's Phoenix, AZ office, Lee will offer investment services for the acquisition, disposition and recapitalization of commercial real estate assets.

An investment services expert, Lee specializes in the healthcare and office sectors and brings more than 15 years of experience in real estate banking, debt financing and equity investments.

Lee previously served as vice president of acquisition at Carter Validus Mission Critical REIT, and as acquisitions manager at Healthcare Trust of America (HTA), a publicly-traded REIT. Before that he earned his appraisal license as a valuation manager at the former CB Richard Ellis, his CPA designation during his tenure at Ernst & Young LLP, and his Series 7 and 63 licenses as a financial analyst at Raymond James.


Colvill Promotes Bruns

Colvill Office Properties, an exclusive owner's representation leasing company, promoted Paula Bruns to vice president in the firm's Houston headquarters.

In her new position, Bruns will oversee leasing and marketing for 4.9 million square feet of class A office space in Houston. The portfolio includes the 1.2 million-square-foot 1100 Louisiana building, One and Two Shell Plaza, 601 Travis, and 1001 Fannin - a 1.3 million-square-foot trophy tower anchored by international law firm Vinson & Elkins.

A 21-year industry veteran, Bruns previously served as director of leasing for Hines before coming to Colvill in the same capacity. In her career, she has completed more than 3.2 million square feet of lease transactions.


Simel Joins Colliers Int'l in NYC

Peter Simel has joined Colliers International as a managing director, continuing the firm's expansion of its New York City operations.

Simel previously served as a senior managing director for Handler Real Estate Services. Before that he worked as a vice president for the former CB Richard Ellis for nine years. Prior to beginning his commercial real estate career, Simel founded PHD, Inc., a multi-line showroom that imported leading European fashion brands, and the Laundry Industry store in SoHo.

"Peter is well-known in the industry for his extensive market knowledge and exceptional client service, which has allowed him to develop strong, long-term relationships with clients and local owners over his more than 13 years in corporate real estate," said Joseph Harbert, president of Colliers International’s eastern region. "His proven track-record of success in New York and work for prestigious clients makes him a great addition to the Colliers team."
