C&W Taps Investment Banking Veteran Forst as President, CEO

Cushman & Wakefield, Inc. has hired former Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. senior executive Edward C. Forst as its new president and chief executive officer, effective Jan. 6.

Before leaving Goldman Sachs in 2011, Forst, 53, served as global co-head of the investment management division and as a member of the influential management committee of the giant investment banking firm, and previously as its chief administrative officer. Most recently, he served as an advisor to privately held investment firm Fenway Partners.

Carlo Barel di Sant'Albano, chairman of Cushman & Wakefield, has run the firm on an interim basis since Glenn Rufrano stepped down as chief executive in June.

Marquette Cos Shakes Up Executive Assignments

The Marquette Companies made several executive appointments in its Naperville, IL office.

Darren Sloniger will add the role of president to his current post as chief investment officer, a position he has held for the past 10 years.

James Cunningham will take over as executive vice president of property management and chief operating officer after previously serving as the firm's executive vice president.

Trevor Ryan steps into Cunningham's former role as executive vice president of asset management and strategic chief financial officer. Ryan previously held the position of director of asset management for the company.

CBRE Promotes Siegel

CBRE promoted Todd Siegel to first vice president in its Chicago urban retail practice.

Siegel has spent the last decade focused on leasing retail space in trophy high rise facilities, city storefronts and mixed-use developments in Chicago and comparable markets throughout the U.S.

Currently, Siegel represents the retail portion of such notable assets as the Trump International Hotel and Tower - Chicago, 500 N Michigan Ave., 730 N Michigan Ave., and 980 N Michigan Ave., and is formulating the retail development strategy for the Tribune Tower. Earlier this year, Siegel teamed up with CBRE's New York office to represent Eataly's 65,000-square-foot Chicago flagship.


Baker Joins NorthMarq

NorthMarq tapped Dan Baker as senior vice president of its San Francisco office.

Baker has more than 30 years of experience in commercial real estate and finance. He most recently served as vice president of EverBank Business Property Lending’s Northern California operations. He also held positions with GE Real Estate Business Property, LoopNet, John Hancock Real Estate Finance, Northern Financial, Metropolitan Life Insurance, and Bank of America.

Baker is a licensed real estate broker in the state of California and a graduate of California State University - San Diego.


Palmquist Joins Colliers Int'l

Tom Palmquist has joined the retail team at Colliers International as a senior vice president in the firm's Minneapolis - St. Paul office, which has partnered with Welsh. In his new role, Palmquist will be responsible for creating commercial development, leasing and asset management.

Previously at CSM for the past five years, Palmquist oversaw commercial development plans. Before that he held positions at other firms in the Twin Cities area, including Ryan Companies, Robert Muir Company, and United Properties. He brings more than 25 years of commercial real estate experience.

Palmquist, who received his bachelor's and MBA from the Carlson School of Business, is involved in the Minnesota Commercial Association of Realtors (MNCAR), National Association of Office and Industrial Parks (NAIOP), and Minnesota Shopping Center Association (MSCA).


GAW Capital Partners Announces New SVP

Following his recent role as senior vice president at Lehman Brothers, Ashish Gupta will join GAW Capital Partners USA as a senior vice president of acquisition, where he will manage investments on the east coast from the firm's soon-to-open New York City office.

At Lehman, Gupta led a team tasked with restructuring a large portfolio of collateralized debt, creating value in complicated distressed deals that delivered an estimated $2.5 billion recovery to Lehman, and earlier completed more than $17 billion in property and entity-level acquisitions for the firm.

"I am pleased to join GAW Capital during this exciting phase in its evolution," said Gupta. "I look forward to helping build on the success of our widely-respected operations in Asia and delivering exceptional returns in the US through investment in under-managed and under-capitalized assets."


McKay, Chhan Join Colliers Int'l

Tim McKay and Dan Chhan have joined Colliers International as vice presidents, specializing in multifamily investments in Seattle.

Previously of Marcus & Millichap, the duo have more than 13 combined years of experience in the acquisition and disposition of multifamily investment properties in the Greater Puget Sound region. Throughout their careers, McKay and Chhan have closed over $120 million in transactions, representing clients such as Gibraltar USA, Teutsch Partners, Cadence Real Estate and Triad Capital.

"We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome them to our team," says Bill Condon, managing director of the Seattle office.


JLL Expands Retail Brokerage in Phoenix

Jones Lang LaSalle is expanding its retail platform into Phoenix with the addition of three specialists. The newly-formed Phoenix retail brokerage practice will be led by Tyson Switzenberg, who will be joined by John Reva and Trask Switzenberg (pictured, right).

The trio, previously with SR Commercial Real Estate, will partner with Craig Killman, JLL's west coast retail market lead, and will be tasked with providing brokerage services to retail owners and tenants in the region.

"Phoenix is a target market for retail owners and tenants alike, and the addition of Tyson, John and Trask will allow us to better serve our clients’ growing demands in the region. Their acute knowledge of the Phoenix commercial real estate market and ability to recognize developing trends will provide our clients unmatched strategic planning and execution," said Killman.


NorthMarq Opens Richmond Office

NorthMarq, the largest national provider of commercial real estate services and solutions, opened its first office in Richmond, VA and its 34th overall.

Keith Wells will serve as managing director at the new location. Wells has served in the mortgage banking industry for Weaver Bros., Carey Winston, First Union, and SunTrust.

Michael Lowry has been tapped as the senior vice president of the Richmond branch. Lowry has held positions at First Union Mortgage Corp., Highwoods Properties, and Harrison & Bates. Most recently, Lowry started his own firm, providing sales and consulting services.


Faris Lee Investments Promotes DePierro

Chris DePierro has been named a managing director with Faris Lee Investments' retail advisory team in the firm's Irvine office.

DePierro brings more than 21 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry, most recently serving as a principal. Before joining Faris Lee, he served as a partner at DePierro Realty Advisors, a family-owned business focused on retail property development, brokerage and consulting. Before that he was a retail broker with the former Grubb & Ellis and Pentz & Partners.

A member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), DePierro earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona.


Cushman & Wakefield Taps Harper as Portfolio Manager

Cushman & Wakefield named Laurie Harper a property manager in its corporate occupier and investor services group.

Working out of the Atlanta office, Harper will supervise office, industrial and retail properties as a strategic advisor to Cushman & Wakefield's third-party investor clients.

Harper comes to Cushman & Wakefield after serving as a senior vice president and group manager at Jones Lang LaSalle, where she was responsible for 2 million square feet of office space and 12 million square feet of industrial space spanning Atlanta and Charlotte. Harper also spent time at Equity Office Properties Trust as a regional director of finance.
