WESTCHESTER (NY)

Schanzer Joins Rebranded Friedland Realty Advisors

Ayall Schanzer has joined Friedland Realty Advisors as its CEO. The firm is changing its name from NAI Friedland to Friedland Realty Advisors, starting the company’s comprehensive rebranding strategy for expansion.

Schanzer will identify and manage commercial opportunities in Manhattan and Yonkers as well as upgrade technology assets to better showcase its properties and aid tenants, investors and communities. He was a former Manhattan assistant district attorney and also served as chief strategy officer of Salient Management Company.

Friedland Realty Advisors is a full-service commercial real estate firm with a 40-year pedigree serving metropolitan New York and the Tri-State area, with a focus on Westchester, the Bronx and Manhattan.



PHILADELPHIA

Carabasi Tapped as Managing Partner at Mohr Partners

Mohr Partners appointed Paul Carabasi as a managing partner in the firm's Philadelphia office. Carabasi joins managing partners Tom McLaughlin and Pat McNulty.

Carabasi has more than 30 years of real estate experience including asset management, tenant representation, and portfolio management. Previously he held positions at the Binswanger Company and Stockton Real Estate Advisors.

"Paul brings a very extensive and impressive background in the Philadelphia real estate market as well as nationally. The experience he has gained over his extensive career will greatly enhance our Philadelphia office," said McNulty.

CHARLOTTE

CCG Appoints Halfacre to EVP

Aaron Halfacre has been named executive vice president and head of capital markets at Campus Crest Communities (NYSE: CCG).

CCG, a Charlotte-based equity REIT, is a leading developer, builder, owner and manager of high-quality student housing. The company has ownership interests in 80 student housing properties, 10 of which are under development or redevelopment.

Prior to joining CCG, Halfacre served as head of strategic relations at Cole Real Estate Investments, a publicly-traded net-lease REIT that recently merged with New York City-based American Realty Capital Properties. He also spent time holding various senior leadership roles with investment manager BlackRock.



CHICAGO

Giannopulos Joins JLL to Expand Tenant Rep Group

Paul Giannopulos has joined JLL in Chicago where he will help lead the tenant representation group as a senior vice president.

A specialist in advising clients on strategic real estate planning, acquiring and selling owned and leased properties, and portfolio and lease administration, Giannopulos joins JLL after eight years with Cresa, most recently serving as principal. He has also spent time with NAI Hiffman and ProTen Realty.

In his new position, Giannopulos will work alongside George Kotrogiannis and Kurt Kittner to provide tenant rep services to clients with multi-market needs. He is the most recent addition to the tenant rep group, joining newly minted members Kevin Rogers, Todd Mintz, Jeff Miller, Andy Strand, Kyle Harding and Jay Heald.



BALTIMORE

MacKenzie Promotes Schline

MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services has promoted Donald K. Schline to senior vice president and principal of the Lutherville, MD-based commercial real estate services firm.

As MacKenzie’s investment sales leader, Schline specializes in acquisitions and dispositions of office, industrial, retail and multifamily properties for the mid-Atlantic region. He led his team in advising clients on investment strategies that total more than $850 million and has worked with such clients as TA Associates Realty, Washington REIT, First Potomac Realty Trust and PNC Bank.

In his new position, Schline will continue to grow the firm’s institutional investment sales platform and provide strategic direction for the brokerage company.



HOUSTON

Transwestern Promotes Johnson

Transwestern promoted 17-year company veteran and current board of directors member Eric Johnson to the newly created position of executive managing director of the firm's national healthcare platform.

In his new role, Johnson will implement strategies and cultivate best practices to improve services catered towards Transwestern's clients in the healthcare, life sciences and biotechnology sectors. As a national leader for Transwestern’s healthcare practice, he will also enhance multi-market synergies for clients.

Johnson stood at the helm of Transwestern's 12-member Houston healthcare investment sales group, which in the past three years has closed 23 medical assets totaling 1.3 million square feet of hospitals, surgical hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and general purpose medical office buildings. The cumulative value of these transactions exceeds $340 million.



NEW YORK CITY

New CFO Named at Benenson Capital Partners

David P. Thomas has been tapped as the new chief financial officer for Benenson Capital Partners LLC, a privately-held real estate investment and development company.

Thomas has been with the company for the past three years as chief accounting officer. Prior to his time at Benenson, he held the title of partner and practice leader with Deloitte's NYC real estate industry group.

Thomas holds an MBA in real estate and finance from Columbia University. He is a member of many professional organizations including ULI and NAREIM.



NEW YORK CITY

Eastern Union Funding Names New CFO

Eastern Union Funding hired Avi Gordon as its chief financial officer. Based in the New York City office, Gordon will manage the company’s financial and technological endeavors.

Prior to joining Eastern Union Funding, Gordon held similar positions in finance, and before that served as CEO for K-Mart South Africa.

Gordon was raised in South Africa and was educated at Harvard Business School.



PHILADELPHIA

LPT Promotes Plourde to VP

Liberty Property Trust (NYSE: LPT) has named Erin Plourde as its vice president, acquisitions. In her new role, Plourde will provide assistance and counseling for property acquisition and disposition activity in Liberty regions across the country.

Plourde joined LPT in 2004 as a senior accountant for development, and was quickly promoted to development controller in 2006. After overseeing financial requirements for development projects, she moved to the acquisitions department in 2008 as a financial analyst. She was promoted to director of acquisitions in 2011, tasked with monitoring and analyzing economic and market conditions, economic trends, logistics fundamentals, and local real estate activity. In this role she worked with mortgage brokers and lenders to secure $230 million in funding covering 11.3 million square feet of company-owned assets.

SAN DIEGO

Gilbert Joins Interwest Capital

Ryan Gilbert has joined Interwest Capital Corporation, a private equity firm specializing in multifamily and hospitality acquisition, operation, and repositioning.

As the vice president of operations for the La Jolla, CA-based firm, Gilbert will source new acquisitions and joint venture equity relationships, specifically seeking value-add and opportunistic investment opportunities in the $20 million to $75 million range across multifamily, senior housing, and hotel asset classes as well as providing capital to urban infill mixed-use redevelopment opportunities across the country.

Gilbert held positions at GE Capital, Janez Properties, Burnham Real Estate, and the Termot Company. Throughout his career he has acquired, financed, managed, disposed, or capitalized investment properties totaling more than $500 million in value.



SACRAMENTO

Kassis Joins US Bank Commercial

U.S. Bank Commercial Real Estate has hired Tim Kassis as its market manager for the Sacramento region. In his new role, Kassis will manage a seven-member team that focuses on loans to investors and real estate developers in the Sacramento area.

A 25-year industry veteran, Kassis formerly served as the manager of U.S. Bank's Sacramento Commercial Division from 2001 to 2002. He also spent five years with the Wells Fargo real estate group and six years at Mechanics Bank as a Sacramento region manager.

Kassis graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in finance.



NORTHERN NEW JERSEY

Iacobucci Joins Woodmont Industrial Partners

David Iacobucci joined Woodmont Industrial Partners (WIP) as a managing director in the firm's Fairfield, NJ office.

In his new role, Iacobucci will manage daily tasks and be responsible for expanding WIP's seaport and inland port warehouse distribution facilities by obtaining and closing new investments.

Iacobucci was previously at Baker Properties, where he managed and increased the company's New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania industrial properties. His career also includes a stint as director of asset management for a New Jersey real estate investor and developer.



PHILADELPHIA

Schontz Joins HFF

Richard Schontz joined the HFF national self-storage team as managing director in the firm's Philadelphia office. Schontz will concentrate on national investment sales in the self-storage sector in his new role.

Prior to joining HFF, Schontz served with Marcus & Millichap's national self-storage group as senior associate and director, where he was involved with the sale of more than 2 million square feet of storage properties across nine states.

Schontz is a member of the Pennsylvania Self Storage Association and the National Self Storage Association.



JACKSONVILLE

JLL Names Jacksonville Managing Director

JLL expanded its multifamily capital markets platform in Jacksonville with the addition of Matt Wilcox as a managing director.

Wilcox will partner with managing directors Denny St. Romain and Jeff Morris to help manage JLL's multifamily business including multifamily investment sales, debt and equity under the direction of international director Jubeen Vaghefi.

Prior to joining JLL, Wilcox led brokerage efforts in North Florida as a senior vice president with Apartment Realty Advisors. He also spent time as the director of acquisitions at Sagebrush Realty Development and Tribridge Residential.
