Cerner Corp., the Kansas City-based healthcare information technology company, agreed to purchase 237 acres of land, including the former Bannister Mall, near I-435 and Bannister Road in south Kansas City. Cerner plans to expand its Innovation office campus and could potentially house 12,000 to 15,000 associates.
The 1.2 million-square-foot Bannister Mall, which opened in 1980, was closed in 2007 and demolished in 2009. The site has been vacant since, and is surrounded by other vacant retail properties such as Benjamin Plaza that would be a part of this redevelopment.
The site, currently owned by Trails Properties II, Inc., is still pending to Cerner Corp. and is expected to close at the end of 2013. The transaction is contingent on incentives and the finalization of due diligence activities.
