Avison Young Recruits Trio from JLL to Bolster Capital Markets Team

October 9, 2017
Avison Young has recruited three commercial real estate finance specialists from JLL to the firm's capital markets group in Washington, D.C. as principals.

Wesley Boatwright, Jonathan Goldstein and Michael Yavinsky previously served as managing directors within JLL's capital markets group before transitioning to Avison Young to focus on mortgage brokerage, project-level equity raises and recapitalizations across all asset types.

Collectively, the trio brings more than 60 years of experience to Avison Young. Since 2012, the team has negotiated more than $6 billion in transactions including the $233 million recapitalization early last month of Port Covington, a $5.5 billion redevelopment project in south Baltimore, on behalf of Sagamore Development and Plank Industries.

"We are fortunate to have such a high-caliber team assist our company and our clients with investment-grade acquisitions as well as development and adaptive-reuse projects," said Josh Peyton, principal and managing director of Avison Young's Washington, D.C. region. "Over more than six decades combined, Wes, Jon and Mike have built distinguished careers by representing diverse investor groups on office, retail, industrial, multifamily and hospitality real estate investments. They will be integral to the future success of our capital markets group."

Boatwright has underwritten and closed more than $10 billion in financing over the course of a 24-year career that includes serving as a senior vice president at Spaulding and Slye and as a vice president with Walker & Dunlop.

A member of the Mortgage Bankers Association, International Council of Shopping Centers and Urban Land Institute, Boatwright has originated joint venture equity, construction loans and floating and fixed-rate debt for multifamily, office, condominium and retail properties across the Mid-Atlantic. He hold an MBA from William & Mary and a bachelor's degree from Washington and Lee University.

A 15-year industry veteran, Goldstein specializes in debt and equity placement for office, multifamily, retail, industrial and hospitality properties. He has underwritten and closed more than $8 billion in financing in his career, which includes stops at Cassidy Turley and BB&T Bank as a vice president and assistant vice president, respectively.

Goldstein is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association, Commercial Real Estate Brokerage Association and NAIOP, and sits on the board of directors of George Washington University’s Real Estate and Finance Alliance. He holds an MBA from George Washington University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona.

Yavinsky has worked in the commercial real estate industry for more than 20 years, having underwritten and closed more than $10 billion in debt and equity financing transactions in that time. At JLL, he sourced debt and equity placement for all property types.

Prior to joining JLL, Yavinsky spent 14 years within the capital markets group at Walker & Dunlop. He is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association and International Council of Shopping Centers, and holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware.
