Amazon to Redevelop Euclid Square Mall for Fifth Ohio Fulfillment Center

650,000-SF Facility to Create 1,000 New Jobs in Northeast Cleveland Suburb
October 3, 2017
With the October 19 deadline to submit proposals for Amazon's (NYSE: AMZN) second headquarters rapidly approaching, the e-commerce giant for the time being is putting steps in place shore up its Midwest operations.

Though Ohio is most likely out of the running for Amazon's second headquarters, the e-commerce giant will nevertheless have a significant presence in the state after revealing the company will develop a new fulfillment center in northeast Cleveland, its second in the market and its fifth in Ohio.

The 650,000-square-foot fulfillment center will be developed in Euclid, OH on a 52-acre site formerly home to the Euclid Square Mall. The company's investment will bring 1,000 full-time jobs to the northeast Cleveland suburb upon its completion.

“The Euclid Square Mall site has been a prime target of our redevelopment efforts. While some saw a vacant mall, we saw an opportunity for growth and development. This project is a fantastic addition to the investment we are seeing in our industrial corridor and will provide valuable employment opportunities for our residents, said JobsOhio president and CIO, John Minor.

In the last 30 days, Amazon has pledged to create 4,000 new jobs in Ohio with the development of three new fulfillment centers, including its new Euclid complex. In mid-September, the company announced plans to develop its first Cleveland-area fulfillment center on the former site of the Randall Park Mall in North Randall. That announcement preceded plans for a fourth Ohio fulfillment center to total one million square feet equidistant between Cincinnati and Dayton in Monroe, OH.
