A’Bulae Opening Event Center in Chaska

Bavaria Downs Will Be Styled After European Estates
February 1, 2018

St. Paul-based A’Bulae wedding and events company is sprouting a third location called Bavaria Downs, which will be an event center in Chaska, MN styled to resemble a European manor.

An LLC tied to Tim George, founder and CEO of A’Bulae, paid $7.6 million for the property at 3919 Bavaria Rd., which sits just east of the border between Victoria and Chaska. It includes a two-story, 20,000-square-foot single-family home set into a 267-acre spread with woods, wetlands, a stream and a lake.

The seller is Bavaria Property LLC, an entity tied to Patricia Redmond Webber, whose father Tom "Bud" Redmond founded the Aussie haircare line. The transaction closed on Jan. 18, according to a certificate of real estate value filed on Jan. 23.

Now that the deal is done, work is about to begin on the six-bedroom house which will be renovated into a venue called the Edward Anne Estate, George said in an interview on Tuesday. The existing structure was built in 1999, and it was designed to emulate those found in French Normandy - with exposed timber beams, winding staircases and raw stone fireplaces. Once work is done, the estate will include a grand courtyard, bar area, 8,000-square-foot ballroom/conservatory and suites for both the bride and groom.

Edward Anne Estate will be able to accommodate events with 100 to 350 guests. The first events at Edward Anne are booked for August, George said, with a soft opening in June.

That is just the first phase, however. George said in 2019 the company will convert an existing horse barn into a second, Kentucky Derby-inspired event venue called Equestria West. The property will offer both indoor and outdoor space for wedding ceremonies, bride and groom suites, a three-season cocktail reception area and two ballrooms. Equestria will have about the same capacity as Edward Anne.

Food service at the two sites will be provided by Minneapolis’ D’Amico Catering.

George declined to disclose how much it will cost to turn the property into Bavaria Downs. TDB Builders of St. Paul is doing the work, he added.

If all goes well with Phase I and Phase II, A'Bulae may embark on a third, in which it would construct a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired building for corporate events. A’Bulae currently operates an events center in St. Paul, and owns and operates an events center at the historic Van Dusen Mansion in Minneapolis.
