Church of Scientology Buys Historic K.C. Office Bldg.

Organization to Use City National Bank Bldg. as Regional HQ
April 4, 2007
The Church of Scientology purchased the City National Bank Building from Grand Investment International for $5.1 million, or about $78 per square foot. The 65,000-square-foot office building is at 1801 Grand Blvd. in Kansas City, MO.

The Los Angeles-based Church, which is represented in 159 countries, plans to use the property as its regional headquarters. Noteworthy members of the organization include actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta, as well as Travolta's wife, actress Kelly Preston.

The seven-story City National Bank building was built in 1926, and renovated and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It is in the city's Freight House District, near the new Sprint Center Arena.

Gibson Kerr, CCIM of Sperry Van Ness represented the seller. Larry Larson of CB Richard Ellis represented the buyer.
