On July 22, Hartz Mountain Industries is celebrating the ground breaking of Edison Towne Square, the redevelopment of a former 98-acre Ford Plant on Route 1 South in Edison, NJ. The redevelopment project is a mixed-use lifestyle center, including retail, restaurant, entertainment, hotel, and office uses.

Edison Towne Square's first phase includes an 148,000-square-foot Sam's Club with a gas station. Other work taking place as part of phase one include the widening of Route 1, permanent 50-foot buffers on Vineyard Road, 35-foot buffers on Route 1, as well as a road system and drainage system, including the site’s retention basin.

Hartz plans to leave 18.5 acres open and has also donated 7.5 acres, adjacent to Paternitti Park, to the Town of Edison for its own use. Hartz has yet to announce any other tenants for the project.
